The need to change the name of placeholders may arise occasionally during the process of finalising templates. It can be due to a plethora of reasons including a change in the language or terminology used in the template, or a change in the structure of the document, etc. Avvoka offers this functionality so you can edit the placeholders quickly and easily. More information about placeholders can be found here.

How does it work?

There are three ways to edit placeholders throughout your agreement. The first and straightforward way is by simply going to the relevant placeholder/s, and modifying them. The second, is via our Find and Replace tool. A third bonus tip, for renaming placeholders, is the use of the Attribute Store.

  1. Manual modification: You can simply edit your placeholder/s by visiting the relevant placeholder and editing it. Changes can include inserting or removing words, numbers, symbols, spaces or by making it uppercase or lowercase, etc. This can only help modify one placeholder at a time and cannot be utilised to change common placeholders in one-go. To change multiple placeholders using this method, you will need to repeat the same process for each one.

  2. Find & Replace: Using the find and replace feature can be a useful way to quickly make changes to placeholders or other text in a document. To edit placeholders via find and replace, you need to first open the find and replace pop-up window and write/paste the placeholder name which you want changed. Then, tick the box for Replace mode to replace the old placeholder name with the new one. Press the insert placeholder button in the same window just above your text area, and click the search button followed by replace or replace all. Clicking replace can help change only those placeholders at locations you want changed. For instance if there are four placeholders called Co-founder, and you want to change the third placeholder to Founder, you can visit that particular placeholder and change it without affecting the other placeholders. To change common placeholders in bulk in a single click, choose replace all.

3. Attribute Store: Editing attribute names through the dedicated attribute store is the most convenient way to edit the names of your placeholders throughout your document. More information about editing attribute names can be found here.
