Cross-referencing is an important feature that allows users to create links between different parts of a document or between different documents. It helps readers navigate through a document more easily, saves time, and ensures accuracy and consistency. Cross-referencing in Avvoka allows you to link different parts of a document, making it easier to navigate and find information. For instance, you can use cross-referencing to refer to a section or sub-section of a contract.

How does it work?

Place your cursor where you want to add the cross reference. Then, navigate to the Insert tab, and click on the cross

symbol

This will open a pop-up window where you can select the paragraph, clause, or sub-clause you want to reference

There are many Reference formats to use for the cross-reference. For example, if you select Number, the cross-reference will only show the number of the referenced clause, such as 5.2

You can also choose to include the name of the section or sub-section in the cross-reference though using the reference format: Paragraph. Once you have selected the format, click the Insert button to add the cross-reference to your document.

It's important to note that paragraphs must be numbered properly for cross-referencing to work correctly. If you use fake numbering, the cross-references will not update properly.

If you are cross-referencing a clause that is wrapped in a block condition, you also need to condition the cross-reference to avoid a situation where the clause disappears and the cross-reference points to nowhere. Otherwise, you may see the message "Reference not found."

It's worth noting that if you already have cross-references set up properly in Microsoft Word, they will be included automatically when you upload the document to Avvoka.

Keywords: cross reference, xref
