Avvoka for Microsoft 365 Copilot

Avvoka for Microsoft 365 Copilot is an agent that lets you work with your Avvoka templates, documents and clauses directly from Copilot Chat.

This guide is in two parts:

  • Part 1 - For users: what the agent can do, how to get started, how signing in works, and how to get good results.

  • Part 2 - For IT administrators: how to enable the agent for your organisation, including prerequisites, how authentication is set up, and the permission scopes involved.

If you can't see the Avvoka agent in Copilot yet, it hasn't been enabled for your account - Part 2 tells your IT team exactly what to do.

Which Avvoka environment do you use?

How the agent gets into your organisation depends on which Avvoka environment you log in to:

  • You log in at app.avvoka.com (Avvoka's US production environment): the agent is published in the Microsoft 365 Agent Store, so your IT admin can acquire it there and assign it to users.

  • You log in anywhere else (for example a UK or EU environment, or your organisation's own dedicated Avvoka domain): the store listing will not connect to your environment. Avvoka will provide an app package configured for your Avvoka domain, and your IT admin uploads it as a custom app. Full instructions are in Part 2.

Either way, the agent works identically once it is in place. Ask your IT admin, or email help@avvoka.com, if you are not sure which environment you are on.

Part 1 - For users

What the agent does

Once signed in, you can ask the agent to:

  • Find templates - search your Avvoka template library and template packs, and see the questionnaire fields a template expects.

  • Draft documents - create a document from a template, or a document pack from a template pack when you need a bundle of related documents in one step.

  • Find documents - locate existing documents and document packs and check their current status and details.

  • Update documents - change field values on an existing document.

  • Export - download a document as PDF or DOCX.

  • Work with clauses - search the clause library and export a specific clause variant.

Getting started

  1. Open Microsoft 365 Copilot at m365.cloud.microsoft/chat.

  2. In the sidebar under Agents, select Avvoka. (If you do not see it, see "I can't find the agent" below.)

  3. Send a request, for example one of the conversation starters:

    • "Find a template in our Avvoka library"

    • "Draft a new document from one of our Avvoka templates"

    • "Show me the current status and details of a document in Avvoka"

    • "Search our clause library for a clause"

Signing in to Avvoka

The first time the agent needs your Avvoka data, it will ask you to sign in with your Avvoka account. Sign in and authorise access. After that, the agent acts with your Avvoka permissions, you only see the templates, documents and clauses your account can access.

Tips for good results

  • Be specific. Name the template, document or clause where you can. If the agent finds several matches, it will list them and ask which one you mean.

  • Drafting a document? The agent retrieves the template first so it knows which fields are required, then asks you for the values it needs, and shows you what it is about to submit before creating anything.

  • Updating a document? The agent confirms which document and which fields before writing changes, and reports back exactly what changed.

  • Exporting? Say whether you want PDF or DOCX. The agent returns a download link.

Troubleshooting

  • I can't find the agent. The agent must be enabled for your organisation by an IT admin, and Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat must be turned on for your account. Ask your admin (see Part 2).

  • I'm not on Avvoka's US environment. Can I still use it? Yes. The agent is not in the Microsoft store for non-US environments, so your IT admin needs to add it as a custom app using a package supplied by Avvoka. Point them at Part 2, Option B.

  • It says I need to sign in to Avvoka, again. Your Avvoka session or authorisation has expired. Sign in again when prompted. If it keeps happening, confirm your Avvoka account is active.

  • It says my account doesn't have access to an item. The agent uses your Avvoka permissions. If you cannot see a template, document or clause in Avvoka itself, the agent cannot either. Ask your Avvoka administrator for access.

  • An action failed for another reason. The agent will tell you what failed. Try again, and if it persists, contact support (below).

Part 2 - For IT administrators

What this agent is

Avvoka for Microsoft 365 Copilot is a declarative agent that connects to Avvoka's remote MCP server as its action. It calls Avvoka on behalf of the signed-in user; it does not store or index your Microsoft 365 tenant data.

Prerequisites

  • Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat must be enabled for the users who will use the agent. The free Copilot Chat tier is sufficient, because this agent uses an external action (the Avvoka MCP server) rather than grounding on tenant data. A paid Microsoft 365 Copilot seat is not required for the agent to function.

  • Users need an Avvoka account. The agent surfaces only what each user's Avvoka permissions allow.

  • You need an admin role that can deploy agents and apps, typically Global Administrator or Teams Administrator.

Availability: store listing vs custom app

The Agent Store listing points at Avvoka's US production environment (app.avvoka.com). It cannot be repointed at a different Avvoka domain after installation.

  • Avvoka US production customers (users log in at app.avvoka.com): acquire the agent from the Microsoft 365 Agent Store. Follow Option A.

  • All other customers (UK, EU, or a dedicated Avvoka domain): request an app package from Avvoka configured for your Avvoka domain, and upload it as a custom app. Follow Option B.

How authentication works

  • The agent authenticates to Avvoka using OAuth 2.0 authorization-code flow with PKCE.

  • Each user signs in with their own Avvoka credentials on first use and authorises access. Tokens are per user.

  • The requested scope is mcp:readwrite, which allows the agent to read and write (create/update/export documents) on the user's behalf. A read-only scope (mcp:read) also exists on the Avvoka side if a more restricted deployment is ever required.

Option A: Acquire from the Microsoft 365 Agent Store (Avvoka US production only)

  1. Acquire or approve the Avvoka agent from the Microsoft 365 Agent Store / Apps store. Marketplace agents are admin-gated by default.

  2. Enable it for the intended users or groups via your normal app-deployment process (Microsoft 365 admin center / integrated apps).

  3. Confirm Copilot Chat is enabled for those users.

Once enabled, the agent appears under Agents in Microsoft 365 Copilot for the assigned users.

Option B: Upload as a custom app (all other Avvoka environments)

  1. Request the app package. Email help@avvoka.com with your Avvoka login domain (for example yourfirm.avvoka.com). Avvoka will send you a ZIP app package with the MCP server URL set to your environment.

  2. Allow custom app upload, if it is not already allowed. In the Microsoft Teams admin center at admin.teams.microsoft.com, go to Teams apps > Setup policies > Global (Org-wide default) and set "Upload custom apps" to On. Policy changes can take a few hours to apply.

  3. Upload the package. In the Microsoft 365 admin center at admin.microsoft.com, open the Copilot control area and go to Agents > Upload custom agent. Select Choose File, select the ZIP that Avvoka sent you, and let it validate.

  4. Check the agent details. Confirm the name, icon and host products, then select Next.

  5. Assign users. Choose the users or groups who should get the agent. For an initial test, assign it to yourself or a small pilot group, then widen it later. Select Next.

  6. Review the permissions and capabilities shown, select Next, then select Finish deployment and confirm.

  7. Confirm Copilot Chat is enabled for the assigned users.

As an alternative to steps 3 to 6, you can upload the same package in the Teams admin center under Teams apps > Manage apps > Actions > Upload new app, then assign it with an app setup or permission policy. Either route makes the agent available under Agents in Microsoft 365 Copilot.

Note: custom apps you upload are not available in Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat until they have been assigned to users, and it can take a short while for a newly uploaded agent to appear for them.

Data and privacy

Common admin issues

  • Users see "Copilot Chat was turned off for your organisation." Copilot Chat is disabled at the org level. Enable it in the Microsoft 365 admin center.

  • Users can't find the agent even with Copilot on. Confirm the agent has been enabled/assigned to those users, and that custom app availability policies are not blocking it.

  • I can't see an option to upload a custom agent. Custom app upload is turned off. Set "Upload custom apps" to On in the Teams admin center under Teams apps > Setup policies > Global (Org-wide default), then try again. You also need an admin role with permission to deploy apps.

  • Users can sign in but see none of their Avvoka data. You have most likely installed the store listing on a tenant whose users are not on Avvoka's US production environment. Remove it and deploy the custom app package for your Avvoka domain instead (Option B).

  • Sign-in fails or loops. Confirm your Avvoka domain is reachable from users' networks and that the users have active Avvoka accounts.
