Connecting Avvoka to Claude

The Avvoka connector lets you generate and manage documents from your templates without leaving Claude. Ask Claude to search your template library, draft a new document (or a multi-document bundle), update an existing one, and download the result as a PDF or Word file. Everything happens in your own Avvoka account, under your own login, and respects the permissions you already have.

Avvoka is listed in Anthropic's connector directory. If you use Avvoka's US production environment (you log in at app.avvoka.com), setup is a single click: find Avvoka in the directory, connect, and sign in. If you use any other Avvoka environment, you can connect just as easily by adding Avvoka as a custom connector; instructions for both are below.

This article explains what the connector can do, how to set it up, and how to fix common problems.

What you can do

Once connected, you can ask Claude to:

  • Find templates and documents: search your template library and template packs, and see what information a template needs before you draft from it.

  • Draft a document from a template: create a new document with the right parties and details filled in.

  • Generate a document pack: launch a template pack to produce several related documents in one step.

  • Review existing documents: find documents by name, status or date and read back their participants and current state.

  • Update document details: change placeholder values or rename a document.

  • Export or download: return a document as a PDF or Word file.

What the connector can do (tools)

Claude chooses the right tool automatically based on what you ask. You don't need to name these, but it can help to know what's available:

Tool

What it does

Example prompt

Find templates

Searches your template library and template packs by name.

"What templates do we have?"

Get template

Shows a single template's details, including the placeholders and parties it needs.

"What information does that template need from me?"

Get template pack

Shows what documents a template pack will produce.

"What's included in our onboarding pack?"

Create document

Drafts a new document from a template, filling in the details you provide, and can return it as a PDF or Word file.

"Draft a document from that template between two parties and export it as a PDF."

Create document pack

Generates a bundle of related documents from a template pack in one step.

"Create all the documents in that pack together."

Find documents

Searches your existing documents and bundles by name, status or date.

"Find our most recent unsigned documents."

Get document

Shows a single document's details, participants and current status, and optionally its content.

"Who's a participant on that document, and what's its status?"

Get document pack

Shows a multi-document bundle and the details shared across it.

"Show me everything in that bundle."

Update document fields

Changes a document's placeholder values or its name. Locked/signed documents are protected.

"Update one of the fields and add 'final' to the name."

Export document

Downloads a document as a PDF or Word file.

"Export that document as a Word file."

Find a clause

Searches your reusable clause library and shows the available variants.

"What clauses are in our library?"

Step 1: Add the connector in Claude

How you add the connector depends on which Avvoka environment you use. Check the web address you use to log in to Avvoka:

  • You log in at app.avvoka.com (US production): install Avvoka from Anthropic's connector directory (Option A).

  • You log in anywhere else (for example a UK or EU environment, or your organisation's own dedicated Avvoka domain): add Avvoka as a custom connector (Option B).

Option A: Install from the connector directory (US production)

If you log in at app.avvoka.com, you can install Avvoka directly from Anthropic's connector directory. No URL or manual configuration is needed.

  1. In Claude, go to Settings → Connectors → Add → Browse connectors and search for Avvoka.

  2. Select Avvoka in the results and choose Connect.

  3. Claude will redirect you to an Avvoka sign-in and consent page. Sign in with your Avvoka account if you are not already signed in.

  4. Review the access you are granting and choose your access level:

    • Read-only: Claude can search and read your templates and documents, but cannot create or change anything.

    • Read and write: Claude can also draft new documents, update existing ones, and export files.

  5. Select Authorise. You will be returned to Claude, and the Avvoka connector will be ready to use.

Option B: Add as a custom connector (all other environments)

If you log in to Avvoka anywhere other than app.avvoka.com, the directory listing will not connect to your environment. Add Avvoka as a custom connector instead:

  1. In Claude, open Settings → Connectors (the exact wording may vary slightly by surface) and choose to add a custom connector.

  2. Enter your connection URL: the Avvoka web address you use to log in, with /mcp on the end (for example https://yourfirm.avvoka.com/mcp). Use no trailing slash and no extra path.

Whichever option you used, you can disconnect at any time from the same Connectors settings in Claude, or by revoking access from within your Avvoka account.

Step 2: Try it out

Once connected, try a prompt like:

  • "Show me what templates we have in Avvoka."

  • "Draft a document from that template and export it as a PDF."

Claude will use the connector to carry out the request and confirm what it has done, including a link to download any file it produces.

Troubleshooting

"I can't find Avvoka in the directory." Make sure you are searching in Claude's connector directory under Settings → Connectors → Add → Browse connectors. If you are on a Claude Team or Enterprise plan, the connectors available to members are controlled at the workspace level, so a workspace owner or your IT administrator may need to enable Avvoka for your workspace first.

"I don't see the option to add a custom connector." This applies to Option B. On Claude Team and Enterprise plans, the ability to add custom connectors is controlled at the workspace level, and members may not have permission to add one themselves. Ask a workspace owner or your IT administrator to enable custom connectors, or to add the Avvoka connector for the workspace.

"I can't connect / my URL isn't accepted." This applies to Option B. Check that you have entered your Avvoka login domain with /mcp on the end (for example https://yourfirm.avvoka.com/mcp), with no trailing slash and no extra path. Make sure it is the same domain you use to log in to Avvoka. If you log in at app.avvoka.com, use the directory listing (Option A) instead; there is no need for a custom connector.

"I installed from the directory but can't sign in / can't see my account." The directory listing connects to Avvoka's US production environment (app.avvoka.com) only. If you log in to Avvoka anywhere else, remove the directory connector and add Avvoka as a custom connector instead (Option B), using your own login domain.

"I'm asked to sign in, but the connection still fails." Confirm that the Claude connector is enabled for your organisation. This is controlled by your Avvoka administrator. If it is not enabled, sign-in will succeed but the connection will not complete.

"Claude can't find a template or document I expected." The connector only sees what your Avvoka user can see. If you expect access to something and don't have it, check your permissions in Avvoka, or that you are connected under the correct account. You can switch accounts from the Avvoka consent page during setup.

"Claude can read, but can't create or change anything." You likely connected with read-only access. Disconnect and reconnect, choosing Read and write on the consent page.

"I can't edit a particular document." Documents that have been signed, completed or otherwise locked are protected and cannot be edited through the connector. This is expected behaviour.

"My access expired." For security, connections are refreshed periodically. If Claude reports that your access has expired, simply reconnect from Claude's Connectors settings.

Privacy and data handling

  • The connector only accesses the templates and documents you ask Claude to work with, and only what your Avvoka account already has permission to see.

  • You authenticate with your own Avvoka login using a secure sign-in (OAuth).

  • All traffic between Claude and Avvoka is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS).

For full details of how Avvoka handles your data, see the Avvoka Privacy Policy.

Support

If a problem isn't solved by the steps above:

  • Please include your Avvoka login domain and a short description of what you were trying to do, so the team can help you faster.
